Head of Sport Jochen Schneider Doubles Down on Red Bull Way

photo by Matt Kremkau Red Bull have been known for doing things their way in MLS since the company took over the Metrostars in 2006 but it has been most prominent in the last decade when the team shifted from a superstar model to one of youth and development. The one thing that has stood consistent over that time is the team's lack of success. Whether with superstars or homegrown players, New York Red Bulls have become synonymous with losing big games. "It's about momentum," said new Head of Sport Jochen Schneider when it comes to lack of playoff success. "It's about luck. Then you have to be there at the right point of time and then you have to prepare for those games. Unfortunately the track record in the last playoff games haven't been the best one." Acknowledgement in the team's shortcomings with regard to the MLS Cup Playoffs is a breath of fresh air. The team has seemingly touted it's abilities in the regular season while ignoring the f...

Red Bulls, FC Cincinnati stifle each other to a draw, 1-1

photo by Matt Kremkau HARRISON, NJ - Early goals by Matt Miazga and Patryk Klimala were not enough to break the stalemate as both teams battled fruitlessly to a 1-1- draw at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.  With newly-appointed Head of Sport Jochen Schnieder in attendance, the Red Bulls were looking to extend their good fortunes at home after a 2-1 road victory against Atlanta United on Wednesday night. FC Cincinnati got on the scoresheet first in the 14th minute thanks to Álvaro Barreal delivering a great ball into the box, and the Clifton, NJ native did the rest. Heading the ball past Carlos Coronel to put the visitors in the lead and stunned the home supporters into relative silence. The Red Bulls equalized things in the 23rd minute when Patryk Klimala converted a penalty kick. The play happened when Andres Reyes was fouled in the box earlier, with VAR confirming the infraction. For Klimala, it would be his first goal since his last tally on the road against Chicago at Red Bul...

Struber Touts "Massive Win" Over Atlanta

photo by Matt Kremkau New York Red Bulls head coach Gerhard Struber was elated with his team's performance, which saw the away side take all three points over Atlanta 2-1 at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Wednesday evening. It was a win that puts New York back on track as they hope to secure a home playoff game. "It was a massive win in all directions," said Struber after the game. "From the mental side, the past few weeks were not so easy, we had a little bit of a situation of not the right results." It was New York's first win in five games and reasserts the team's dominance on the road. This comes after another devastating home loss that has the team with one of the worst home records of any playoff contending team.  "I would say in all for phases today I can see we controlled the game," said Struber. "In the end I know Atlanta has outstanding quality in their roster, but I think our principles, our tactical identity, crashed them with big hi...

Red Bulls Conquer Atlanta United, 2-1

photo by Matt Kremkau Early goals by Lewis Morgan and John Tolkin powered the New York Red Bulls over Atlanta United, continuing their regular-season dominance over their Eastern Conference rivals, 2-1. Saturday's loss against Orlando City has put this team in a desperate situation. Despite sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and the opportunity of possibly hosting a first-round playoff match at home slipping away, Gerhard Struber and his men travel to the state capital of Georgia, where an equally desperate Atlanta United side looking to make a push for the playoffs themselves.  The starting eleven was roughly the same as the match against Orlando City with one exception, midfielder Daniel Edelman was inserted in for Frankie Amaya for a little defensive bite against an attack-minded Atlanta United lineup led by midfielder Thiago Almada looking to break the regular season hex against a team they have not beaten in regular-season play. Midfielder Lewis Morgan got thing...

Struber Acknowledges "Difficult Situation" for Red Bulls

photo by Matt Kremkau New York Red Bulls have only one win in their last five games with the team and coach acknowledging just how difficult this latest run has been. The Red Bulls continue to be the worst home team in a playoff position with little answers as to what is affecting the club at Red Bull Arena. "(It is) a difficult situation for me and for my team at the moment," said head coach Gerhard Struber after the loss to Orlando on Saturday. "We have to realize the situation we are in right now is not easy and I think we need big belief to bounce back." One of the team's biggest issues is their inability to score goals. Patryk Klimala has not produced the way the team or fans had expected with just four goals in 2022. The team is beyond the half way point of the season leaving questions as to whether the team can handle a playoff run without a clinical striker. "We are sad for the fans," said midfielder Daniel Edelman. "We have to look forwar...

Orlando City frustrate Red Bulls yet again, 1-0

photo by Matt Kremkau HARRISON, NJ - Facundo Torres' early goal was all that Orlando City needed to stymie the Red Bulls once again as they grabbed a much-needed 1-0 victory on the road at a stunned Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.  The two sides have met again since the U.S. Open Cup semifinal, a horrific 5-1 loss that has angered the team and supporters alike. After earning a draw on the road against hated rival D.C. United, they return home to "right the ship" for the stretch run for the playoffs with nine matches left in the regular season. Defender Kyle Duncan returns to the Red Bulls on loan from Belgian club K.V. Oostende and made a start for the team tonight.  However, 17 minutes in, the visitors struck first. Facundo Torres, on a tremendous overlapping run from a counter-attack, took the ball from Junior Urso and blasted a shot from a difficult angle that first deflected off goalkeeper Carlos Coronel but wound up in the back of the net.  Red Bulls tried to wake ...

New York Red Bulls II Sign English Midfielder Henry Wise

New York Red Bulls II are not done replenishing their ranks with the announcement of Henry Wise joining the club. The former Queens Park Rangers and Derby County player has only seen professional action with Watford FC in an FA Cup game but is looking to build on his training in the United States. "We think he will have an impact on our midfield group," said Sporting Director Denis Hamlett.  Wise is yet another signing, joining Yostin Salinas who was brought in earlier in the week. The 22 year-old is still pending approval from both the federation and USL so expectations are that he won't appear in tomorrow's game against Charleston. New York Red Bulls II has a history of taking younger talent and developing them into first team players. Aaron Long and Florian Valot are just two examples of talent brought in from other clubs to continue development. Wise will join a very young and talented group that is hoping to make an impact on the rest of the USL Championship seas...
