UEFA's disciplinary committee has suspended Red Bull Salzburg players Mohamed Camara and Sekou Koita after positive tests for doping. The suspensions, which carry a length of three months, were dealt despite the commission feeling that the doping itself was unintentional.
"We are pleased that there is now clarity in this matter and we know the result," said Salzburg General Manager Stephan Reiter. "This is still a real blow for us, of course. While we were not at fault in the situation in any way at all, we are not unprepared, as we have geared our squad accordingly."
Koita has been an effective weapon in the attack for Salzburg. Through 15 games, the Malian striker has scored 13 goals with an additional three added in from Austrian Cup games. Camara, also a Mali international, has played in 18 total games since joining the team in 2019.
This will leave Salzburg under-staffed heading into the first leg of the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League against Villareal. Still, the team is confident in their depth to push through and finish the season without some of their more valuable players.
