New York Red Bulls are set to break their own transfer record with the signing of Dante Vanzier, according to Tom Bogert of the Athletic. Vanzier has been linked to New York for some time but now it is nearing confirmation.
Vanzier has scored 48 goals in 91 appearances for the Belgian first division side Union SG. The versatile 24 year-old is part of a revamp for the Red Bulls offense where he can play as a striker or on the wing. Along with the newly re-signed Lewis Morgan and Elias Manoel, New York is looking to be more aggressive in the attack, where they've lacked in bite since the departure of Bradley Wright-Phillips in 2020.
The signing would make Vanzier the most expensive player in team history with a five million dollar transfer fee. This follows their previous efforts in the signing of Patryk Klimala in 2021 for four million. Klimala never got off the ground in New York, and the team is being rumored to looking for an exit.
