RB Leipzig have taken a major step towards winning their first Bundesliga title with the signing of proven-striker Andre Silva. The 25-year old Brazilian had success with Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 29 goals last season in all competitions.
"Andre Silva is one of the best forwards in the Bundesliga," said Technical Director Christopher Vivell. "He is a good fit for our team and our style of football both as a person and as a player. Andre is a proper goal-getter, something his tally of 28 goals from last season demonstrates. He is a complete forward as well though - he can finish with both feet, he's strong in the air and he's technically gifted."
This signing fills a major hole for the team since the departure of Timo Werner. Last season Leipzig lacked a killer instinct in front of goal, despite signing both Hwang Hee-Chan and Alexander Sorloth. Neither took to the job quickly enough but now Leipzig have a proven commodity that should make them favorites in the league.
Leipzig has always been defensively secure and will remain so, despite losing Dayot Upamecano in the off-season. Now, Silva joins the likes of Emil Forsberg, Christopher Nkunku and Dani Olmo in what should be an incredibly potent attack for the 2021-22 season.
"The club has big goals and ambitions," said Silva. "I want to help them achieve those, ideally by scoring as many goals as possible. I want to play at the highest level and that is Champions League football. I have the chance to do that on a regular basis at RB Leipzig."
