RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has admitted that he has had conversations with clubs across Europe despite a recent contract extension with the East German club. The young Frenchman spoke on the issue ahead of his first senior team appearance for the French National team.
"I am targeted by several clubs," said Upamecano. "I speak with clubs but I have time. We will see what happens in the future."
The 21-year-old has become a hot commodity around Europe and most recently has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Upamecano made 37 appearances last season for Leipzig and helped them get to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. They are expected to take a major step forward this coming season and compete against the likes of Dortmund and Bayern Munich after finishing in third place.
Upamecano still hasn't reached his full potential and Leipzig would love to keep him for at least another season. A similar issue happened with striker Timo Werner who left for Chelsea despite signing an extension before the start of the 2019-20 season. More than likely, Upamecano can leave if the interest is truly there and Leipzig will more than likely not stand in his way.
"Keep my feet on the ground," said Upamecano when speaking on his recent success. "I've had this determination since I was a kid and I want to keep working hard to reach the highest level possible."
