RB Leipzig were happy to announce that a select number of fans will be permitted to attend the team's home opener against Mainz on September 20th. The agreement made with the city of Leipzig will have 8,500 fans in the spectator and hospitality sections of Red Bull Arena.
The agreement is a unique one in that fans from outside of the city will be unable to attend. Also, no traveling fans for away teams will be allowed into the venue. All spectators will have to wear masks or face coverings and no alcohol will be served until at least the end of October. Fans in attendance will also provide contact information in case of infection.
The Bundesliga, which was the first of the major football leagues to resume play, is also becoming one of the first to allow fans into stadiums in such large numbers. Should this be successful, future stages are planned towards getting venues back to full capacity.
Leipzig, who finished in third place last season, will begin play in the league on September 12th against Nurnberg.
