"I am very pleased to be extending my contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg," said Walke. "My role in the team has changed a little recently, of course. I will continue to do everything I can to help the club, the team and the many young players we have with what I can offer as a footballer and also with my experience."
Walke joined Salzburg from the German club Hansa Rostock in 2010. He only made four appearances that season but was quickly promoted to starter and notched over 200 appearances in goal for the club. Along the way he helped the team win seven consecutive championships and dominate the domestic league. Now, towards the end of his career, Walke seems committed to helping Salzburg groom the future stars of Europe.
"Even if Alex didn't make any competitive appearances for us in the current season, he is an extremely important part of the team and an absolute key player," said Sporting Director Cristoph Freund. "We really wanted for him to stay as we know how important he is to the fabric of our team."
